Being a family wellbeing coach is the most interesting thing I have done in my life. Every family is unique and every family faces challenges. I find that working with the challenges that families face, inspires me to learn more and grow myself.
I don’t believe that there is any such thing as the perfect family and the award winning author Neil Shusterman seems to agree with me. He says, ‘The best you can really hope for is a family where everyone's problems, big and small, work together. Kind of like an orchestra where every instrument is out of tune, in exactly the same way, so you don't really notice.’
Now it seems that every orchestra needs a conductor to see that they stay in sync and it is becoming more and more necessary in these difficult times that every family has a coach to help them stay in tune. You need to, not only stay in tune with each other, but with yourself. Yes you can be out of sync with yourself and that is when depression and self-doubt can set in. So often the work of a family coach is to coach the parents before they look at the whole family.
Parents often start a family before they’re ready, both financially and psychologically. Sometimes there are unresolved problems in the relationship between husband and wife, and this is only added to when the little one arrives. Sleepless nights, hormonal changes, financial pressures and the stress of caring for a new-born, can all bring on arguments within the family.
Research shows that first-time parents argue on average 40% more after their child is born. But even subsequent children can cause couples to argue. Many couples squabble over domestic chores as everybody is exhausted by the extra load. One person often feels that the other isn’t doing their fair share.
Furthermore, having a baby is a costly business. The extra expenses such as nappies, baby clothes, getting the nursery set up, baby sitting and numerous other expenses can put a strain on the bank balance and the relationship.
Having children will inevitably create new challenges for couples. People tend to think that having a family will bring them closer together but this isn’t always the case. This is where a caring and compassionate family wellbeing coach can step in and help iron out any problem areas. Go here to find out about your Family Coach.
